This event is being organised under the All-Atlantic Ocean Research Alliance umbrella and is receiving funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 818395.
Scientific Event
The Scientific Event aims to scientifically underpin the vision for the All-Atlantic Alliance based on bottom-up contributions from the research community coupled with a policy and civil society perspective in areas of societal and socioeconomic concern. The event will focus on potential future actions to be taken into consideration by policy makers at the Ministerial Event in Washington, D.C.
The Scientific Event will include both plenary and breakout sessions. Side events will be held prior to and after the main event program, during the week of May 23 and the week of June 6. A detailed program for side events will be available soon.
The Scientific Event also aims to give future talents, in particular the All-Atlantic Youth Ambassadors, an active role, to allow them to engage in international discussions, and to be the voice of the younger generations.
Ministerial Event
Outcomes from the Scientific Event will be highlighted at the Ministerial Event in Washington, D.C. in July, which will be in person and streamed live. The event will feature ministerial interventions and roundtable discussions, as well as the signing of the All-Atlantic Ocean Research & Innovation Alliance Declaration. The main ministerial event will also be accompanied by side events hosted at several Embassies.
STRATEGIC GOALS
The annual All-Atlantic Fora have been key in bringing together both Galway and Belém Statement partners and additional states, stakeholders, and organizations interested in collaborating. This year’s Forum will continue to build on that spirit of cooperation.
The objective of the Scientific Forum, taking place in Brasilia, is to support dialogue about ongoing action by targeting sustainability perspectives and including the involvement of funders and decision-makers. The goal of the Scientific Event is to take stock of existing initiatives, nurture the discussion around new priorities and related activities, and to support others newly launched, focusing on the identified priorities of the All-Atlantic Declaration.
The main objective of the Ministerial Event in Washington, D.C. is the launching of the first-ever All-Atlantic Ocean Research and Innovation Alliance Declaration. The Declaration will outline the vision of the All-Atlantic Ocean Research Alliance, a basin-wide network in support of ocean research and innovation. The signing of the Declaration will reinvigorate collaboration between existing initiatives and prompt discussion about the best path forward to better align the Galway Working Groups, AANChOR Joint Pilot Actions, and associated projects, as well as how to bring other potential partners and initiatives into the All-Atlantic community. The All-Atlantic Ocean Research Alliance aims to be an open community and will continue to bring in new partners to advance the goals of the Declaration.
